MBA stands for Masters of Business Administration. It is a post graduate degree. Anyone who wants to pursue MBA should be a graduate in any field. MBA course is offered by an affiliated university. There are two options – full time MBA – part time MBA PGDM stands for Post Graduate Diploma in Management. It is a diploma course. Anyone who wants to pursue PGDM should be a graduate in any field. PGDM courses are offered by those institutes that are not affiliated.

PGDM is a two year full time management course.The duration of MBA courses in India depends upon the type of course you are pursuing. Usually it is of two years but if you want to pursue a professional MBA course or an executive MBA course then that is of one year.

Advantage of PGDM over MBA

As institutes offering PGDM courses are not affiliated to any university they can design their own curriculum and hence can be regularly updated and made accourding to changing technology in industries. Where as in MBA courses the institutes are affiliated by universities so their syllabus changes once in 3-5 years or may not even change. This benefits the students of PGDM as they are more up to date. They get more industrial exposure. While MBA focuses more on theoretical aspects PGDM focuses on preparing the students for job market.

Advantage of MBA over PGDM

MBA is more affordable as the fees is almost similar to university standard and in PGDM courses fees depends upon the institute. While choosing MBA college students are certain of one thing that it is an affiliated college hence the degree will be acceptable anywhere. While the student has to be careful of the PGDM college he or she chooses as there is no affiliation of any university.

MBA helps in developing technical skills and PGDM prepares you for high level market positions.  MBA gives you knowledge in business orientation and PGDM makes you ready for challenges of market. If one wants to be an entrepreneur then MBA is the clear cut choice.
