Common Admission Test (CAT):

CAT is the entrance exam for MBA favoured by most of the aspiring candidates. CAT Exam pattern and syllabus It is conducted annually in the month of October/November for admission in all the Indian Institute of Management (IIMs) and around 100 top Business schools. The exam is held in 136 cities comprising of six hundred fifty test centers. Currently there are nineteen IIMs in Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Kolkata, Lucknow, Kozhikode, Indore, Shillong, Tiruchirappalli, Raipur, Udaipur, Rohtak, Ranchi and Kashipur being the old ones, and new ones are Nagpur, Visakhapatnam, Sirmaur, Amritsar, Sambalpur and Bodh Gaya. The total numbers of seats are three thousand six hundred ninety-five, with average admission done every year being sixty. Exam pattern, schedule and test format has been changed substantially from CAT 2015 to CAT Exam 2016. Instead of two sections CAT 2016 pattern will have three sections and switching from one section to another will not be allowed. A basic on-screen calculator for calculation will be allowed to use by applicants.

  • Issuing date of Admit Card- October of 2016
  • Exam date of CAT 2k&16 – November of 2016
  • Announcement Date of Result- December of 2016

These are some assumed periods within which these operations might work out but not completely assured. The dates may change under certain circumstances.

Expected Exam Pattern of 2016:

  • Total time allotted to take the entrance exam-3 hours (180 minutes)
  • Time division for each section to complete-1 hour (60 minutes)
  • You will not be allowed to switch the sections. Complete 1 by 1.
  • Total number of questions of CAT: 100 questions
  • Question quantity division in the 3 sections:

Data Interpretation &

Logical Reasoning-32

  • Data Interpretation-16
  • Logical Reasoning-16

Verbal Ability &

Reading Comprehension-34

  • Verbal Ability-10
  • Reading Comprehension-24

There are cut-offs separately for every section. So you need to excel in all of the 3 categories.

2016 CAT will also have non-MCQs along with MCQs like 2015. The number of questions may vary in number from section to section.

Scoring process:

  1. Right answer-(+3) marks
  • Wrong answer for MCQs-(-1)
  • Wrong answer for non-MCQs-No negative marking
  • Un-attempted questions carry no alteration of marks.

Just qualifying the entrance is not enough to get admitted in your dream Business School of Management. You need to get prepared for the upcoming Group Discussion round or Essay writing skills ending with Personal Interview, which you need to perform well equally.
